Defibrillator Training

The defibrillator device is used for the purpose of defibrillation, a process in which the heart is provided with electrical energy. The electrical energy is used in the treatment of heart diseases like ventricular fibrillation, cardiac arrhythmia or pulseless ventricular tachycardia. The result of using defibrillation technique is that arrhythmia gets terminated, the affected muscles of heart are depolarized and sinus rhythm is brought back to normal.

Training for Defibrillation

The defibrillator training activity doesn’t consume much time and people can be educated to use this device without much difficulty. The objective behind training laymen to operate a defibrillator is enabling them in dealing with an emergency. Organizations like the American Heart Association and US Red Cross provide training for defibrillator operation. Getting trained to deal with an emergency involving heart problems is always recommended. One may never know when an emergency may arise and the need to use this machine may become very important. Defibrillator Training Course

In the training, students are first taught about respiratory and circulatory systems; anatomy and physiology of these systems is studied. Importance of ‘Chain of Survival’ and early fibrillation are presented before students. Safety guidelines and training for operating the Automated External Defibrillators (AED) is given. This training is also given to people in the police service. Most of the patrol cars are equipped with AEDs.

Using the AEDs

The AEDs have made it easy to help people with cardiac arrest and other heart problems while in an emergency. The AEDs when turned on, provide the user with instructions about connecting pads (electrodes). Electrical output from a patient’s heart is examined by the AED through these pads. While the pads are being attached to the patient’ body, nobody is allowed touch him. Touching the patient can result into deviation in the readings. The readings provided by AEDs help in determining whether there is anything wrong with the heart rhythm. The internal capacitor is charged with a battery; this charge is used to give a shock to the patient’s body. There are two important benefits of using AEDs. The first one is that shock is delivered to the patient only after its necessity/requirement is verified. Other benefit of using the AED is that less time is required to carry out the process. A lot of time in the process of checking the rhythm and delivering appropriate amount of shock is saved.

This training can help save lives, if a person is provided with proper know-how of actions to be taken. One should therefore, attend training courses in order to get well-versed with details of preventive treatment measures.
